KINGSTON (The Tribune International)- West Indies have unveiled a 15-player squad for their upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka, with the Caribbean side focused on building momentum in their quest for automatic qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The ODI series, scheduled to take place from June 3 to June 8 at Sabina Park in Kingston, marks an important phase in the West Indies’ long-term preparations for major international tournaments. Under the leadership of captain Shai Hope, the hosts will be eager to continue their impressive run of form on home soil.

The “Men in Maroon” enter the series with growing confidence after enjoying success in recent ODI assignments at home. West Indies are currently unbeaten in their last four home ODI series and will be aiming to extend that streak to five with a positive showing against Sri Lanka.

One of the biggest boosts for the squad is the return of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who is back in contention after recovering from a back injury that kept him out of action since July 2025. His return is expected to strengthen the pace attack significantly.

Spinner Gudakesh Motie has also been recalled after missing the team’s tour of New Zealand in November. His inclusion provides additional depth and balance to the bowling department as West Indies prepare to take on a challenging Sri Lankan side.

Meanwhile, hard-hitting batter Shimron Hetmyer has earned a return to the ODI setup following a string of impressive performances during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket West Indies views his inclusion as part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the squad ahead of the 50-over World Cup scheduled for late 2027. Hetmyer is expected to join the squad before the third and final ODI of the series.

Head coach Daren Sammy expressed confidence in the team’s preparations, highlighting the players’ strong performances at home and the positive atmosphere within the squad.

The West Indies team arrived in Jamaica on May 31 after completing a 10-day training camp at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua. The camp provided valuable preparation time as the players fine-tuned their skills ahead of the important ODI assignment.

With key players returning and confidence running high, West Indies will be looking to make a strong statement when they face Sri Lanka in Kingston this week.
