In a rare public statement delivered at the White House, Melania Trump said the claims linking her to Epstein were “baseless lies” intended to damage her reputation. She stressed that she had no knowledge of his crimes and was not associated with him or his activities.
“The lies linking me with Jeffrey Epstein need to end,” she said, adding that those spreading such claims lacked “ethical standards, humility and respect”.
Her remarks come amid renewed political debate in Washington over the handling of Epstein-related investigations and the release of official documents.
The First Lady also called on Congress to hold a public hearing centred on survivors of Epstein’s crimes, urging lawmakers to provide victims with a platform to share their experiences.
“Every woman should have the opportunity to tell her story publicly if she wishes,” she said, emphasising the need for accountability and transparency.
Melania Trump clarified that while she may have crossed paths with Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell in social settings, she was not friends with them. She described a past email exchange as “trivial” and dismissed suggestions that it indicated any deeper relationship.
She further rejected claims that Epstein played a role in introducing her to former President Donald Trump, stating that the couple met independently in New York in 1998.
Her statement is expected to reignite political and public attention on the Epstein case, which has remained a contentious issue in US politics, with ongoing calls for further disclosures and accountability.
