LAHORE (News Desk) – Actor Hania Aamir has spoken out against online bullying and societal pressures faced by women, saying that women who appear confident and content with their lives are often unfairly targeted.

In a recent social media post, Aamir shared that she had been experiencing self-doubt and took time off to reflect on her personal and professional life. During this period, she said she arrived at a striking conclusion: “People just hate happy women.”
The actor highlighted how women who choose to live freely and independently are frequently criticised, not only by men but also by other women. She noted that society continues to impose rigid expectations, and those who do not conform are often subjected to judgement and hostility.
Aamir also criticised the culture of comparison on social media, recalling an incident where she was compared to another celebrity for wearing a similar outfit. She questioned why such comparisons are rarely made when men dress alike, suggesting a double standard in how women are perceived.
She further observed that while many believe outdated mindsets such as “log kya kahenge” (what will people say) are fading, they continue to persist in modern forms, particularly online.
Despite acknowledging the positive aspects of social media, Aamir said the volume of negativity directed at women is harmful and counterproductive. She urged people to reflect on their reactions to others’ success and happiness, and to avoid projecting insecurities onto them.
Calling for greater empathy, the actor appealed to individuals—especially women—to stop criticising others for not fitting traditional moulds. “Let people be who they are,” she said, adding that constant judgement only discourages authenticity.
