LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday provided interim legal relief to Hamza Habib, husband of actor Momina Iqbal, in a case involving allegations of issuing threats to a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker.
Appearing before the court with his counsel, Habib sought protective bail, maintaining that he intended to cooperate with investigators and join the ongoing inquiry. His legal team argued that there were concerns he could be arrested before obtaining appropriate legal remedies from the relevant court.
Justice Abher Gul Khan accepted the plea and granted interim protective bail until June 1. The court directed the petitioner to approach the competent court for pre-arrest bail before the next hearing.
The case stems from an FIR registered by Jhang police, in which PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar accused Habib of issuing life threats.
Speaking to journalists after the hearing, Habib rejected the allegations and described the FIR as baseless. He stated that he had already solemnised his nikah with actor Momina Iqbal and said their wedding celebrations would proceed according to schedule.
Habib also claimed that he would continue to stand by his wife despite the ongoing legal dispute. He further alleged that the complainant had attempted to persuade him to distance himself from Momina in return for financial incentives, an offer he said he refused.
The matter is expected to proceed before the relevant court as legal proceedings continue.
