MUMBAI (Showbiz Desk) – Veteran Indian filmmaker Shakeel Noorani, known for his work as a writer, producer and director in Bollywood, has been arrested by Malvani Police following a complaint of alleged rape and sexual assault filed by a 33-year-old actress.
Noorani, 73, who has been associated with films including Bade Dil Wala (1999) and Joru Ka Ghulam (2000), was taken into custody after police launched an investigation into allegations made by the actress. The filmmaker has been accused of sexually assaulting the woman after allegedly inviting her to his residence in Mumbai’s Malvani area on the pretext of discussing a possible film project.
According to media reports, the complaint submitted by the actress includes allegations that she was allegedly given a sedative before the assault. The complainant also claimed that she was threatened with a video, which allegedly created fear and pressure on her.
Police officials said Noorani was traced to a farmhouse in Medha, located in Maharashtra’s Satara district. He was reportedly taken into custody during the early hours of August 8 and later brought back to Mumbai for further investigation.
The case has drawn attention because of Noorani’s long career in the Indian film industry. The filmmaker has worked across different aspects of cinema, including screenwriting, production and direction.
