ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has warned of a nationwide protest if PTI founder Imran Khan’s family is not allowed to meet him at Adiala Jail on Thursday.
Speaking at a press conference at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad, alongside Salman Akram Raja and other PTI leaders, Afridi said party parliamentarians would reach Adiala Jail on Thursday to seek a meeting with the former prime minister.
He also announced that PTI lawmakers would stage a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday as part of the party’s protest campaign.
Afridi said Imran Khan’s family had assured the authorities that the meeting would be limited to his welfare and would not involve political discussions. He urged the government and jail authorities to accept the guarantee and facilitate the meeting.
The KP chief minister said the party was particularly concerned about Imran Khan’s health and demanded that he receive proper medical treatment. He also expressed concern over the reported health condition of Bushra Bibi.
Afridi alleged that Imran Khan was being kept in custody without justification and claimed that the PTI founder was physically fit when he was taken to Adiala Jail. He held the government, judiciary and prison authorities responsible for ensuring Khan’s health and wellbeing.
The chief minister further warned that political frustration and unemployment were contributing to growing anger among young people across the country.
He claimed that young people were ready to join protests and cautioned that the situation could become difficult to control if they took to the streets.
Afridi also referred to September 27 as a potential date for a major nationwide mobilisation, warning that the authorities could face serious challenges in managing the protests.
The statements come amid continued tensions between PTI and the federal authorities over Imran Khan’s incarceration, access to his family and concerns raised by the party regarding his health.
