TEHRAN (Web Desk) – Iran has indicated that the reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz will depend on the continued implementation of a ceasefire in Lebanon and the easing of restrictions on Iranian oil exports.
According to reports, a source close to Iran’s negotiating team said the waterway would remain closed until commitments related to the Lebanon ceasefire are respected and waivers permitting Iranian oil sales are granted.
The development comes as Iranian and US officials begin a new round of talks in Switzerland aimed at advancing a peace process and reducing regional tensions. The negotiations follow an interim agreement brokered by Pakistan earlier this week.
Despite Iran’s announcement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, US officials maintain that commercial shipping activity has continued through the key maritime route, which handles a significant portion of global oil trade.
Observers say the issue could emerge as a major point of discussion during the ongoing negotiations, with global markets closely monitoring developments due to the waterway’s importance to international energy supplies.
