iPhone 20 rumors point to major redesign for Apple’s 2027 anniversary model

Apple’s rumored iPhone 20 could bring a major anniversary redesign, featuring under-display Face ID, advanced cameras, faster memory, new batteries and larger screens.

CUPERTINO (Web Desk) – Apple’s rumored iPhone 20 lineup is shaping up as a potentially major anniversary upgrade, with reports pointing to an all-glass design, under-display technology and faster hardware.

Apple could be preparing one of the biggest iPhone redesigns in years for its 20th-anniversary lineup, with a growing number of reports pointing toward substantial changes in design, display technology, cameras, processing hardware and battery performance.

The rumored devices are expected to arrive in 2027, marking two decades since Apple introduced the original iPhone. Reports suggest the company could use the anniversary as an opportunity to introduce a significantly different design and potentially skip the iPhone 19 branding in favor of an iPhone 20 lineup.

Apple has not confirmed the name, specifications or launch plans, and the reported features remain subject to change during development. Nevertheless, several rumored technologies could make the anniversary models considerably different from upcoming Pro versions.

One of the most ambitious changes is a possible quad-curved, all-glass design. Reports indicate that Apple is exploring displays curved along all four edges, potentially allowing the screen to extend closer to the device’s frame. The approach could create a more seamless appearance while reducing the visual prominence of the traditional metal border.

Apple is also reportedly exploring more advanced OLED technology. Samsung is said to be involved in developing panels using Color Filter on Encapsulation technology, which could help reduce display thickness while improving light transmission. The result could be brighter screens with potentially improved power efficiency.

Another major possibility is the eventual removal of the Dynamic Island. Apple has reportedly continued working on under-display Face ID components, while an under-screen front camera is also being developed. If the technology becomes sufficiently mature, the iPhone could deliver a more uninterrupted display.

However, under-display biometric and camera technology has faced development challenges, meaning it is not certain that the feature will be ready for a 2027 commercial launch.

Camera technology could also receive a major upgrade. Apple is reportedly developing its own image sensor that could eventually reduce its reliance on Sony components. A custom stacked sensor using advanced light-handling technology could potentially improve dynamic range and preserve more detail in difficult lighting conditions.

The company is additionally rumored to be testing solid-state controls. Instead of conventional buttons that physically move, future iPhone controls could use haptic feedback to simulate button presses. The technology could potentially be applied to the Side, Volume, Action and Camera Control buttons.

Performance is expected to receive another boost through a rumored A21 Pro processor. Reports suggest the chip could use a more advanced 2-nanometer manufacturing process, potentially delivering improvements in processing power and energy efficiency compared with earlier generations.

Battery technology could also change. Apple is reportedly investigating silicon-anode batteries, which can potentially store more energy within a similar physical footprint. If adopted, the technology could provide longer battery life without requiring a substantially larger battery.

Faster memory is another reported development. Apple is said to be evaluating vertically stacked DRAM technology that could increase memory bandwidth. Such improvements could become increasingly important as Apple expands artificial intelligence features that run directly on the device.

Display sizes may also increase slightly. Rumors point to a possible 6.4-inch screen for the iPhone 20 Pro and a 7-inch panel for the Pro Max, compared with the expected 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch sizes of the current Pro-class generation.

Despite the extensive list of rumored upgrades, consumers should treat the reports cautiously. Apple typically tests multiple technologies before deciding which features are suitable for mass production, and some projects can be delayed or abandoned.

For owners of recent Pro models, the possibility of a major anniversary redesign could make waiting an attractive option. If several of the rumored technologies reach production, the iPhone 20 lineup could represent a more substantial generational change than a conventional annual upgrade.
