LAHORE: Customs officials at Lahore Airport made a significant seizure of high-value goods, including diamonds, medicines, and luxury watches, worth approximately Rs 18.1 million. The contraband items were discovered in the luggage of a passenger traveling from Dubai, showcasing the heightened vigilance under the leadership of Tayyeba Kayani, the newly appointed Collector of Airports, Lahore.
The passenger, identified as Rashid Khalid, a resident of Lodhran, arrived at the international terminal on flight PA-412. The Customs officials, led by Assistant Collector Simrah Azhar alongside superintendent Muhammad Javaid, flagged the passenger as suspicious. Upon scanning his luggage, commercial quantities of prohibited items were discovered. The seized goods included diamonds and restricted items, with customs duties and taxes amounting to Rs 9 million.
The seizure was made in compliance with Sections 15, 16, and 168 of the Customs Act 1969 and Passenger Baggage Rules 2006. The accused was handed over to the Investigation and Prosecution wing for further action.
Inspector Muhammad Azhar, who detected the concealment, credited the department’s proactive measures. Chief Collector Airports Hasan Saqib Sheikh, along with Additional Collector Hina Gul and Assistant Collector Simra Azhar, praised the team for their sharp vigilance.
