MUZAFFARABAD (Web Desk) – Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Inspector General of Police Liaquat Ali Malik has urged the public to exercise caution while consuming and sharing information online, warning that misinformation and fake news pose a growing threat in the digital age.
Speaking to journalists in Muzaffarabad, the police chief said law enforcement agencies were closely monitoring the spread of false information aimed at creating confusion among the public. He emphasized that citizens should rely only on verified sources and avoid forwarding unconfirmed reports.
The IG said recent claims circulating on social media regarding the closure of roads and restrictions on movement in Azad Jammu and Kashmir were incorrect. He clarified that all major routes connecting the region remained fully operational and that traffic was moving without interruption.
Liaquat Ali Malik noted that advances in technology, including artificial intelligence tools, had made it easier for misleading content to spread rapidly. He stressed the need for greater public awareness and responsible use of digital platforms to counter such challenges.
He also dismissed reports alleging that authorities had intercepted a vehicle transporting food supplies, describing the claims as unfounded. According to the police chief, fact-checking mechanisms can help determine the authenticity of information before it is shared widely.
The IG urged residents to contact the AJK Police helpline whenever they require assistance or need clarification regarding public safety matters. He assured citizens that police and other security agencies remain committed to maintaining peace, ensuring transparency and providing timely information.
He reiterated that authorities would continue efforts to curb the spread of false narratives and protect the public from misinformation.
