BEIJING (Tech Desk) – Redmi has officially unveiled the K90 Ultra in China, introducing a flagship smartphone that places gaming performance, battery life and premium display technology at the center of its design. After months of rumors and leaks, the latest addition to Redmi’s premium lineup arrives with top-tier specifications, an advanced cooling system and one of the largest batteries available in a flagship smartphone.
The Redmi K90 Ultra is designed for gamers and power users who require sustained performance during intensive tasks. Unlike many flagship smartphones that focus primarily on slim designs, Redmi has prioritized cooling efficiency and long-lasting performance without compromising premium features.
Powering the smartphone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, manufactured using an advanced 3nm process. The chipset is paired with the Adreno 830 GPU and Redmi’s dedicated D2 gaming chip, which enhances frame interpolation and helps deliver smoother gameplay in supported titles. Together, these components are intended to provide flagship-level speed for gaming, multitasking and demanding applications.
To maintain consistent performance, Redmi has integrated an active cooling fan inside the phone. According to the company, the built-in cooling system can reduce device temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius, minimizing thermal throttling during long gaming sessions. The phone also supports bypass charging, allowing power to flow directly to the motherboard during gaming instead of heating the battery.
The K90 Ultra features a 6.83-inch flat AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 × 2772 pixels. The screen supports a 165Hz refresh rate for exceptionally smooth animations and gameplay, while peak brightness reaches an impressive 3,500 nits, ensuring excellent outdoor visibility. Redmi has also included full-brightness DC dimming technology to reduce flickering and improve eye comfort during extended use.
For audio, the smartphone includes dual symmetrical stereo speakers professionally tuned by Bose, delivering enhanced sound quality for gaming, movies and music. The device is available in three finishes: Space Silver, Shadow Black and Sky Blue.
Durability is another highlight of the K90 Ultra. The smartphone carries IP66, IP68 and IP69 certifications, providing protection against dust, water immersion and high-pressure water jets, making it one of the most durable premium smartphones currently available.
Photography is handled by a dual rear camera system led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization. The camera is accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens for capturing landscapes and group photos. On the front, a 20-megapixel camera supports selfies and high-quality video calls.
Battery performance is one of the device’s biggest selling points. Redmi has equipped the K90 Ultra with a massive 8,550mAh battery, significantly larger than most flagship smartphones on the market. The battery supports 100W wired fast charging, allowing users to recharge quickly despite its large capacity. The device also offers 22.5W reverse wired charging, enabling it to charge other compatible devices such as smartphones and wireless earbuds. Redmi includes a 100W GaN fast charger inside the retail package.
The smartphone runs Android 16 with Xiaomi’s latest HyperOS 3 interface, offering improved performance optimization, smoother animations and enhanced gaming features. Buyers can choose between 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of high-speed UFS 4.1 storage.
Pricing begins at approximately $441 for the base 12GB RAM and 256GB storage model. Under a limited-time promotional offer, Redmi is also selling the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage variant at the same price. Higher storage models are available for customers seeking additional capacity.
Although Redmi has announced the K90 Ultra exclusively for the Chinese market, industry analysts believe a similar smartphone could eventually launch globally under the Poco brand. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed international availability.
With flagship hardware, an advanced cooling solution, premium display, powerful battery and gaming-focused features, the Redmi K90 Ultra positions itself as one of the most capable Android smartphones introduced this year, targeting users who demand top-level performance without paying ultra-premium flagship prices.
