LAHORE: Pakistani actor Momina Iqbal on Thursday appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to submit evidence in connection with an alleged harassment case involving Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Saqib Chadhar.
According to officials familiar with the matter, Momina Iqbal arrived at the NCCIA office accompanied by her legal counsel and provided investigators with relevant evidence and details related to the alleged harassment complaint.
Sources said the investigation team questioned the actress regarding the submitted material and recorded her statement as part of the ongoing inquiry. To avoid media interaction and public attention, Momina Iqbal reportedly entered the NCCIA premises through a rear entrance.
The development comes days after the case drew significant public and political attention on social media and mainstream media platforms. The allegations prompted calls for a transparent investigation and swift legal action.
Meanwhile, the accused PML-N MPA Saqib Chadhar failed to appear before the agency despite being summoned at 1:00 pm on Thursday. Officials said the lawmaker did not comply with the notice issued by investigators, while no immediate explanation for his absence was made public.
The case has also attracted attention at the provincial government level. Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had reportedly taken notice of the matter and directed authorities to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations.
Officials from the NCCIA have not yet disclosed the exact nature of the evidence submitted by the actress, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. However, sources indicated that digital records and supporting documentation were included in the material handed over to investigators.
Legal experts say the inquiry could proceed further depending on the authenticity and strength of the evidence presented before the cybercrime agency. Under Pakistan’s cybercrime laws, harassment through digital platforms and electronic communication can lead to criminal proceedings if allegations are proven in court.
The incident has sparked debate online regarding the safety and protection of women in the entertainment industry and public life, with many social media users urging authorities to ensure justice through due legal process.
Neither Saqib Chadhar nor representatives of the PML-N had issued an official statement on the latest proceedings at the time this report was filed.
The NCCIA investigation is expected to continue in the coming days as officials review the evidence and determine the next course of legal action.
