According to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigation, the victim’s father was asked to place his thumbprint on a written application to amend incorrect details in the FIR related to the Data Darbar incident. The original application named a safety officer as Muhammad Daniyal, while subsequent verification showed the officer’s correct name was Muhammad Hanzala.
Police said the corrected application was submitted to ensure accurate records and that the procedure was carried out at the morgue while the family was present to receive the body. Officials added that the investigation wing requested the amendment to avoid legal complications during the case proceedings.
The DIG said the family members were also asked to sign documents related to the release of the body and identification by two witnesses, as required under standard operating procedures.
A supplementary statement from the victim’s father was recorded, and a revised FIR with the correct details has now been registered, police said.
Authorities stressed that the steps were taken to maintain the integrity of the investigation and that all actions were documented in line with legal requirements.
