LAHORE Two police officials were martyred after unidentified armed motorcycle riders opened fire on them in Lahore’s Badami Bagh area, police officials said on Thursday.
According to police, Sub-Inspector Adeel and Constable Asad lost their lives in the attack. Both officials were deployed at Lari Adda Police Station.
Police said the incident appeared to be a targeted attack, linking it to previous police action against criminals. Officials claimed that Sub-Inspector Adeel had killed a suspected dangerous shooter, Faizan Butt, during a police encounter some time ago.
Police further stated that Faizan Butt’s brother, Rehan Butt, is also wanted in criminal cases and is considered a dangerous shooter. According to initial investigations, Rehan Butt allegedly carried out the attack in retaliation for his brother’s death.
Following the incident, senior police officials reached the crime scene and launched an investigation. Police and forensic teams collected evidence, including bullet shells and other material, to help identify the attackers.
The bodies of the martyred officers were shifted to a mortuary for post-mortem examinations. Police have started efforts to trace and arrest the suspects involved in the attack.
The killing of the two officials has raised concerns over attacks on law enforcement personnel in Lahore, while police authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
