LAHORE: A four-member delegation of the World Bank called on Chairman Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, to discuss initiatives aimed at promoting a cashless economy in Punjab. The meeting focused on ongoing reforms, digital payment facilitation, and collaboration to fully digitalize the tax collection system.

During the meeting, the Chairman briefed the delegation on PRA’s efforts to encourage digital payments in the services sector. He highlighted that consumers in the hotel and restaurant sector are being offered up to 11 percent tax relief on payments made through debit and credit cards.
It was further shared that the World Bank and PRA have agreed on a joint working plan to achieve complete digitalization of tax collection. The Chairman emphasized that the transition to an e-economy would help curb tax evasion and eliminate manipulation and tampering of records.
He also informed that PRA’s e-system will be linked with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) database to ensure greater transparency and operational efficiency. With the support of other government institutions, efforts are underway to expand the scope of business registration and tax collection across Punjab.
The World Bank delegation appreciated PRA’s reform agenda and assured full practical cooperation in its implementation.
