DUBAI (Web Desk) – India will stage the first-ever ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, taking over hosting responsibilities from Sri Lanka for the six-team international tournament.

The competition will run from February 14 to 28, 2027, with matches scheduled to be played in Mumbai and Vadodara.

Australia, England, hosts India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will compete for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy title.

The six participating teams were determined according to the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, with July 6 used as the qualification cut-off date.

The tournament will mark another significant addition to the international women’s cricket calendar, providing the leading sides with another major ICC title to contest.

Sri Lanka loses hosting rights to India

Sri Lanka had originally been selected to host the inaugural tournament, but hosting responsibilities have now shifted to India.

According to reports, Sri Lanka is still required to implement certain reforms in accordance with ICC guidelines.

The issues surrounding those reforms were discussed and decisions were taken at the ICC Annual Conference in July.

India will now prepare Mumbai and Vadodara to host the two-week competition.

Six teams chase inaugural title

The tournament brings together some of the strongest teams in international women’s cricket.

Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka secured their places based on the rankings criteria established for qualification.

With only six teams participating, qualification for the inaugural edition was highly competitive.

The tournament is also expected to generate significant attention for women’s cricket in India, which has witnessed substantial growth in audience interest and commercial investment in the women’s game.

Further information regarding the tournament format, individual fixtures and venues is expected to be announced ahead of the competition.
