PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Torrential monsoon rains continued to batter Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), claiming at least 12 lives and injuring 18 people over the past three days, while authorities issued fresh flood and landslide warnings for several regions of Pakistan as heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout the week.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the fatalities included five men, two women and five children. The authority said widespread rain-related incidents caused casualties, property damage and disruption to essential services across multiple districts.
The deadliest incident occurred in Khyber district, where six members of Afghan families lost their lives after their vehicle was swept away by flash floodwaters while travelling through the area. Rescue teams continued search and recovery operations while local authorities urged residents to avoid travelling through flood-prone routes.
Two children were killed in Mardan after heavy rainfall triggered dangerous conditions, while another man died in Peshawar in a separate rain-related incident. Officials said most injuries resulted from collapsing structures, flash floods and accidents caused by severe weather.
The PDMA reported that 18 people, including 10 men, four women and four children, sustained injuries during the recent spell of heavy rain. Khyber district recorded the highest number of injured, followed by Mardan and Torghar.

The disaster also caused extensive property losses. Three houses were completely destroyed, while another 15 suffered partial damage due to flooding and heavy rainfall. Livestock losses were also reported, with four animals killed in Upper Dir, Abbottabad and Buner districts.
Meanwhile, electricity supply was severely affected across the province as persistent rainfall damaged transmission lines and electrical infrastructure. Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) confirmed that power supply to 148 feeders was disrupted across Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan, Swabi and Swat regions.
According to Pesco, prolonged rainfall complicated restoration work, although technical teams worked throughout the night to restore electricity to dozens of affected feeders. Operational staff have been placed on high alert, while additional equipment has been deployed to speed up repair work in the worst-hit areas.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a nationwide weather advisory, warning of flash floods, urban flooding, landslides and rising river levels from July 21 to July 24.
The authority warned that heavy rainfall could trigger dangerous flooding in rivers, mountain streams and seasonal waterways across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and northeastern Balochistan.
Several major rivers, including the Chitral, Kabul, Swat, Panjkora, Jhelum and Chenab, are expected to experience increased water flows. Authorities also cautioned that additional water releases from Indian reservoirs could further raise water levels in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers.
Urban flooding remains a major concern in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal and several other cities where drainage systems may struggle to cope with heavy rainfall.
The NDMA has separately warned of possible landslides in Chitral and mountainous regions of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Hunza, Nagar, Astore and Skardu, where falling rocks and mudslides could block highways and isolate remote communities.
Provincial administrations have been directed to keep rescue teams, heavy machinery and emergency response units on standby. Local authorities have also been instructed to monitor vulnerable areas continuously and ensure immediate road clearance where landslides occur.
The NDMA has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly in mountainous regions and flood-prone areas, while advising the public not to cross rivers, streams or flooded roads during periods of heavy rainfall. Residents have also been encouraged to follow official weather updates and emergency advisories as authorities remain on high alert to respond to further monsoon-related emergencies.
