KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced admissions for its Community Midwifery Training Course, offering young women an opportunity to receive professional healthcare education and contribute to improving maternal and child health services across Karachi.
According to the admission announcement, applications for the training programme will remain open until August 10, 2026, with eligible candidates invited to submit their forms at designated KMC midwifery schools during official working hours.
The initiative aims to strengthen community-based healthcare by producing trained midwives capable of providing essential maternal, newborn and reproductive health services, particularly in underserved communities where access to skilled healthcare workers remains limited.
KMC officials said the programme is designed to equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals. Successful candidates will receive training in pregnancy care, childbirth assistance, postnatal services, newborn care, family planning and community health awareness.
Admissions are being offered at five KMC-affiliated midwifery institutions located across Karachi. These include the KMC Midwifery School, New Karachi, CDGK Sartaj Bano School of Midwifery, Soldier Bazaar, Khadijatul Kubra School of Midwifery, Pak Colony, Gizri Maternity Home and School of Midwifery, and Sobhraj Maternity Hospital Midwifery School, Urdu Bazaar.
Students enrolled in the programme will receive practical clinical training at major public healthcare facilities, including Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, and Gizri Maternity Hospital, where they will gain hands-on experience in maternity and neonatal care.
According to KMC, applicants must have passed matriculation, preferably with a science background, obtaining at least 40 percent marks. Candidates must be between 15 and 35 years of age, possess a valid Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC), and hold a Karachi domicile issued by the Government of Sindh.
Officials said admission forms can be obtained from the offices of the principals at the respective midwifery schools and submitted before the closing date. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered during the selection process.
The admission schedule includes a written examination on August 15, 2026, at 11:00 am at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Candidates who qualify in the written test will be invited for interviews scheduled for August 20, 2026, at the same venue.
Healthcare officials said community midwives play a vital role in reducing maternal and infant mortality by ensuring safe pregnancies, skilled deliveries and timely referrals for medical complications. They noted that trained midwives also educate families about nutrition, vaccination, breastfeeding and child health.
KMC believes the programme will help address the growing demand for qualified maternal healthcare professionals while creating employment opportunities for young women interested in serving their communities.
Medical experts have welcomed the initiative, saying Pakistan continues to require more trained midwives to improve healthcare outcomes, particularly in densely populated urban areas and low-income communities where access to healthcare services remains limited.
Officials added that graduates of the programme may find employment in public hospitals, private healthcare facilities, maternity centres, non-governmental organisations and community health projects, while some may also establish independent maternal healthcare services after meeting regulatory requirements.
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation encouraged eligible women to apply for the programme, describing it as an opportunity to develop professional skills while making a meaningful contribution to public health. Authorities said expanding the number of trained community midwives will strengthen maternal healthcare services and support broader efforts to improve the health and well-being of mothers and newborns across Karachi.
