LAHORE (Sports Desk) – Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) over her conduct during the Asia Cup encounter against arch-rivals India.

The disciplinary action relates to an incident following the dismissal of Indian batter Shafali Verma, when Fatima gestured towards the pavilion after taking her wicket.

The ICC ruled that the Pakistan skipper had committed a Level 1 offence and fined her 10% of her match fee. One demerit point was also added to her disciplinary record.

According to the ICC, Fatima accepted the offence and the sanction proposed by the match officials. As a result, no formal hearing was required.

The latest action means Fatima now has two demerit points within a 24-month period. Her previous point was imposed on August 6, 2025, during Pakistan’s T20 International against Ireland in Dublin.

The penalty comes after Pakistan suffered a convincing defeat against India in the Asia Cup.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Pakistan’s batting line-up struggled and was bowled out for 55 in 18.1 overs.

India chased the modest target in only 8.4 overs, finishing the match with three wickets down.

Despite the setback against India, Pakistan’s campaign remains alive, with the team still having an opportunity to qualify for the Asia Cup semi-finals.

Fatima Sana’s side will face Hong Kong in a crucial fixture, where a victory would secure Pakistan’s place in the last four.

Pakistan will therefore be looking to put both the India defeat and the disciplinary episode behind them as they seek to continue their Asia Cup campaign.
