CAIRO (Web Desk) — At least 64 people, among them 13 children, were killed in an air strike on a hospital in western Sudan last week, the World Health Organization confirmed on Saturday.

The attack targeted Al Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur on Friday, leaving at least 89 others injured and forcing the facility to cease operations, according to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Sudan has been gripped by conflict since April 2023, when tensions between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces escalated into full-scale war.
The RSF has accused the military of carrying out the strike, while the army has denied responsibility. However, two military officials, speaking anonymously, indicated that the intended target had been a nearby police station.
The ongoing conflict has had a devastating human toll, with the United Nations estimating more than 40,000 deaths, although humanitarian organisations believe the actual figure could be significantly higher.
The WHO reports that over 2,000 people have lost their lives in attacks on healthcare facilities since the war began. Calling for restraint, Ghebreyesus urged an end to the violence, stating that the suffering must stop and that it is time to de-escalate the conflict.
