WASHINGTON (Web Desk) – US President Donald Trump on Monday renewed his administration’s hardline stance toward Iran, saying Washington would continue maximum pressure on Tehran until a new agreement is reached while reiterating that the United States will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

In a statement shared on social media, Trump accused Iranian leaders of sending conflicting messages regarding negotiations with the United States. He claimed Tehran had privately expressed interest in talks while publicly denying that any negotiations were taking place.

The US president asserted that Iran was communicating with Washington only through Oman, describing the Gulf state as an intermediary in ongoing diplomatic contacts. However, Iranian officials have repeatedly denied that direct negotiations with the United States are currently underway.

Trump maintained that diplomatic efforts would continue alongside sustained political and economic pressure, arguing that Iran must make a clear decision regarding its future relationship with the international community.

He also claimed that the US Navy maintained complete operational control over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest energy shipping routes. According to Trump, maritime security in the strategic waterway remains under close American supervision.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical passage for global oil exports, and any disruption to shipping through the area has the potential to affect international energy markets and global trade.

Trump said pressure on Iran would continue until either a comprehensive agreement is achieved or Tehran accepts what he described as complete surrender. He repeated his long-standing position that the United States would never allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

The president argued that current regional tensions were the result of policies pursued by Iran over several decades and insisted Washington would continue taking steps it considers necessary to protect its national security interests and those of its regional allies.

His latest remarks followed earlier statements in which he said planned military action against Iran had been suspended to provide additional time for diplomacy.

Trump had previously indicated that discussions with Iran could begin this week, although he did not identify a location, timetable or participants for any potential negotiations.

Iranian authorities, however, rejected those claims, insisting that no meetings with American officials had been scheduled and denying reports that Tehran had requested negotiations.

Officials in Tehran have maintained that their current diplomatic contacts relate primarily to discussions with Oman concerning maritime issues and regional stability rather than direct engagement with Washington.

The exchange of conflicting statements reflects continuing uncertainty surrounding US-Iran relations, which have remained tense amid disagreements over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and maritime activities.

International observers say both countries continue to rely on public messaging while leaving open the possibility of future diplomatic engagement through intermediaries.

The nuclear issue remains one of the central disputes between Tehran and Washington. The United States continues to insist that Iran must prevent any possibility of developing nuclear weapons, while Iran maintains that its nuclear activities are intended for peaceful civilian purposes.

Regional security analysts warn that continued political uncertainty could prolong instability across the Middle East, particularly if diplomatic efforts fail to produce meaningful progress.

Meanwhile, developments in the Gulf continue to attract close attention from global markets because of the region’s importance to international energy supplies.

Several countries have called on both Washington and Tehran to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation.

Diplomatic observers believe indirect communication through regional partners could eventually create opportunities for renewed negotiations if both sides demonstrate greater flexibility.

For now, however, public positions remain sharply divided, with Washington reaffirming its pressure campaign and Tehran denying claims of imminent negotiations, leaving uncertainty over the future direction of relations between the two longtime rivals.

Despite the continued rhetoric, international efforts to encourage diplomacy remain ongoing as governments seek to avoid further instability in an already volatile region.
