LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali and his family have dismissed viral social media claims alleging that the cricketer was assaulted in India after being caught pickpocketing on a train, calling the reports completely false and based on a misleading video circulating online.
The controversy began when several social media pages shared a video claiming it showed Hasan Ali being beaten by members of the public in India. The posts quickly gained traction across different platforms, with many users sharing the footage without confirming whether the person shown in the video was actually the Pakistani cricketer.
Responding to the rumours, Hasan Ali’s wife, Samiya Khan, issued a clear statement rejecting the claims. She said neither she nor Hasan Ali had travelled to India during the past three years, making the allegations entirely baseless.
Samiya expressed disappointment over the rapid spread of misinformation on digital platforms. She said many people accepted and forwarded the claims without checking their authenticity, allowing false stories to gain widespread attention within a short period.
She also urged electronic, print, social and digital media platforms in both Pakistan and India to verify facts before publishing or circulating news involving public personalities. According to her, responsible journalism requires confirming information instead of relying on viral social media content.
In a post shared on Instagram, Samiya said it had been three years since she and Hasan Ali last visited India. She added humorously that people across the border seemed to miss them and were finding excuses to keep their names in public discussion.
Her statement was widely shared online and received support from many Pakistani social media users, who criticised those responsible for spreading the misleading video. Several users pointed out that the individual shown in the footage looked noticeably different from Hasan Ali and questioned how such claims gained popularity despite obvious differences.
Others argued that the incident highlighted a growing problem of misinformation on social media, where edited videos, false captions and fabricated stories often spread faster than verified facts. They called on users to confirm information from reliable sources before sharing it with others.

Hasan Ali remains one of Pakistan’s most recognised fast bowlers. He played a vital role in Pakistan’s victorious ICC Champions Trophy campaign in 2017, delivering a memorable performance against India in the final with figures of three wickets for 19 runs. He has also produced several match-winning spells in Test and limited-overs cricket, including a notable five-wicket haul against South Africa in 2021.
