KANDIAN/GUJRAT (Dunya News) – Flood conditions persisted in several rivers across Pakistan on Wednesday as ongoing monsoon rains kept water levels elevated, prompting authorities to maintain emergency preparedness and continuous monitoring.
According to flood control officials, Chashma Barrage remained at a low flood level, with water inflows recorded at 310,446 cusecs and outflows at approximately 301,000 cusecs. Officials said inflows had increased by nearly 34,000 cusecs over the previous 16 hours, reflecting the continued impact of seasonal rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
The situation remained similar at Jinnah Barrage, where low-level flooding also continued. Water inflows were measured at 309,000 cusecs, while outflows stood at 305,000 cusecs, according to the latest official readings.
In Punjab, the Chenab River continued to flow at elevated levels near Head Marala. Authorities recorded water inflows of 205,488 cusecs and outflows of 187,388 cusecs, indicating sustained pressure on the river system following widespread monsoon showers.
District administrations in affected regions said all relevant departments, including irrigation, rescue and disaster management authorities, had been directed to remain on high alert. Officials are continuously monitoring river flows, barrages and vulnerable areas to ensure a timely response if water levels rise further.
Authorities have also urged residents living near rivers and seasonal streams to stay informed through official advisories and cooperate with local administrations if precautionary measures become necessary.
Pakistan experiences heavy monsoon rainfall between July and September each year, with the season often leading to increased river flows and localised flooding in low-lying areas. Disaster management agencies continue to monitor weather patterns and hydrological conditions to minimise risks to lives and property.
