RAMALLAH (Web Desk) – Two Palestinian teenagers were killed during an incident involving Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank on Monday, according to Palestinian officials, while the Israeli military said the youths were involved in an attack near a Jewish settlement.
The incident occurred in the area of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, where tensions have remained high amid ongoing security operations and increasing violence in the territory.
According to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the two Palestinians who lost their lives were aged 15 and 19. A relative of the victims also confirmed their ages. Palestinian authorities said a third teenager was injured during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that the injured individual, aged 15, was in stable condition after receiving medical care.
In a statement, the Israeli military said its forces opened fire on three individuals who were allegedly throwing fire bombs and burning tyres near the Karmei Tzur settlement. The military claimed that two of the suspects were killed while the third was wounded.
Independent verification of the competing accounts was not immediately possible.
The latest incident comes amid heightened tensions across the West Bank, where Israeli forces have intensified raids and security operations in recent months. Restrictions on movement have also been tightened in several Palestinian communities located near Israeli settlements.
The issue of Israeli settlements in the West Bank remains one of the most contentious aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The United Nations and much of the international community consider the settlements illegal under international law and view them as a major obstacle to the creation of a future Palestinian state.
Israel disputes that interpretation, maintaining that the status of the territory remains subject to negotiations and emphasizing historical and religious ties to the area.
Violence in the West Bank has continued to escalate, with frequent clashes involving Israeli forces, Palestinian residents and Israeli settlers. According to data cited by international organizations, dozens of Palestinians have been killed in incidents involving settlers and security forces since the beginning of the year.
At the same time, Palestinian attacks targeting Israeli soldiers and settlers have also been reported, contributing to a deteriorating security situation across the territory.
Human rights groups and international observers have repeatedly expressed concern over the rising number of casualties and have called for restraint from all sides. Diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further violence continue, but a lasting resolution to the conflict remains elusive.
The deaths of the two teenagers are likely to add to concerns over the worsening security environment in the West Bank, where recurring confrontations continue to fuel instability and deepen divisions between the two sides.
