LAHORE: In a major crackdown against narcotics, Lahore Police have arrested more than 9,400 drug peddlers since the beginning of this year, according to official figures released by the department.

A spokesperson for Lahore Police revealed that 9,196 cases have been registered under different sections of the Anti-Narcotics Act, resulting in the arrest of 9,410 suspects. The operations led to the recovery of a massive cache of illegal drugs, including 4,431 kilograms of hashish, 913 kilograms of crystal meth (ice), 507 kilograms of heroin, 288 kilograms of opium, and over 53,000 liters of liquor.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana directed field units to intensify targeted actions against drug suppliers, with a special focus on curbing the online distribution of synthetic drugs. He stressed that protecting the youth from drug addiction, particularly ice, is a top priority and ordered close coordination with the Prosecution Department to ensure swift trial and punishment of drug offenders.
Kamyana further emphasized the role of community engagement in eradicating narcotics from society. “Parents, teachers, media, and civil society must work together with law enforcement to protect the younger generation from the scourge of drugs,” he added.
The Lahore Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining consistent action against drug traffickers and ensuring a drug-free environment for citizens.
