LAHORE: The mystery surrounding the alleged abduction of a 12-year-old girl from Lahore’s Ichhra area has been resolved after investigation police traced her safely from Gujranwala, officials said.
The development came after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident and directed authorities to ensure the safe recovery of the girl.
According to police officials, DIG Investigation Lahore Syed Zeeshan Raza assigned the task to SP Model Town Investigation to trace the missing girl and complete the investigation on priority.
A special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of SP Model Town Investigation Usman Aziz Mir and ASP Breera.
The investigation team reviewed footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras covering routes from Lahore to Gujranwala and carried out raids at different locations during the search operation.
Police officials said the girl was traced from a Dar-ul-Aman (women’s shelter) in Gujranwala with the help of modern technology and continuous efforts by the investigation team.
The 12-year-old girl is currently safe and under protection at Dar-ul-Aman Gujranwala, police said.
Officials added that after completion of necessary legal formalities and approval from the competent court, the girl would be handed over to her parents.
Police said further legal proceedings in the matter would continue according to the law.
