9LAHORE: The 4th International Conference on Emerging Trends in Physics has started at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).
The grand inaugural ceremony of three day conference held at the Iqra Auditorium.
This conference is a joint venture of the Faculty of Science and Technology, LCWU with the Department of Physics at COMSATS, Lahore.
The Physics Department, LCWU, has bought together distinguished physicists, researchers, and scholars from across the globe to discuss cutting-edge developments in the field of physics.
Prof Dr Safia Anjum, Conference Chair and Chairperson of the Physics Department at LCWU, introduced the theme and the objectives of the conference.
She acknowledged the value of contributions by sponsors, partners, and participants, thus establishing the tone of the event as a collaborative one.
Chief Guest Prof Dr Manzoor Ikram, Director General of NILOP, Islamabad addressed the session and talked about how physics can play a role in solving global challenges.
He stressed that without research and development, innovation could not be generated.
A landmark moment of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between NILOP and the Physics Department of LCWU, aimed at promoting collaborative research and development in laser and optoelectronics, which promises to open new avenues for academic and scientific advancement.

The conference continued with a series of keynote presentations. Prof Dr Pawel Kowalczyk from the University of Poland presented an informative talk. The subsequent sessions featured great names like Prof. Dr. Hakan Ates of Ghazi University, Turkey, and Dr M. Shahbaz Anwar of the University of Cambridge, UK, who enlightened the audience on topics of thin films, nanoparticles, and emerging technologies.
Vibrant poster presentations filled the day as students and researchers displayed their innovative projects to create a dynamic exchange of ideas and feedback from seasoned experts. During the next phase, conference was divided into a series of sessions conducted by renowned scholars. These sessions were chaired by Prof. Dr. Zubaida Yousaf, Chairperson of the Botany Department, and Prof. Dr. Bushra Naseem, Chairperson of the Chemistry Department, both from LCWU.
Prof Dr Rehana Sharif from UET, Lahore presented the recent developments in condensed matter physics, especially the new materials and their applications. Dr Khurrum Joya from Intel Islamic University, Madina, Saudi Arabia then presented his work on the role of nanomaterials in sustainable energy conversion. Dr. Nauman Sarwar Qureshi from GCU, Lahore emphasized the progress in theoretical physics, particularly in quantum mechanics, which requires further research. Subsequent invited talks by Dr Shahid Atique, Dr. Muhammad Yasin Naz, and Dr. Muhammad Afaq covered various themes, such as solid-state physics and the environmental impacts of advanced materials.
