LAHORE: The Punjab Environment Department has launched a crackdown against brick kilns causing environmental pollution in Lahore, with Director General Environment Punjab Abdullah Niar Sheikh leading the operation.

During the field operation, conducted under the supervision of DG Environment, teams inspected nine brick kilns in different areas of the provincial capital to assess compliance with environmental laws and emission standards.

The department said M/s Khalid Pottery Kiln was found violating environmental regulations during the inspection. The kiln, located near Safia Homes on Sui Asal Road off Ferozepur Road, was demolished on the spot under the supervision of the DG Environment.

Deputy Director Environment Ali Ejaz and field teams also participated in the operation.

Abdullah Niar Sheikh said that a zero-tolerance policy was being implemented against units contributing to air pollution. He said no leniency would be shown towards those violating environmental laws.

ā€œLegal action against pollution-causing units will continue without discrimination,ā€ the DG Environment said, adding that field operations would be further accelerated to provide citizens with a clean and healthy environment.

The Punjab Environment Department has been conducting inspections and enforcement actions against industrial and commercial units as part of efforts to control air pollution and improve environmental compliance across the province.
