KARACHI — Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has rejected reports claiming that party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is preparing to get married, describing the speculation surrounding his alleged engagement and wedding as “incorrect and unfounded”.

Wahab issued the clarification in a post on X late Saturday after claims about the former foreign minister’s personal life began circulating on social media.
The speculation suggested that Bilawal, the son of President Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, was preparing to marry into a European family.
Neither Bilawal nor members of his family have publicly commented on the claims.
Social media claims spark speculation
The rumours gained traction after social media accounts claimed that President Zardari had travelled to Liechtenstein, a small European country situated between Switzerland and Austria, in connection with discussions over his son’s alleged wedding.
Some posts went further, claiming that Bilawal’s prospective bride was a former Austrian princess.
No official evidence was presented to substantiate the claims.
Pakistani publication Daily Ausaf also carried a report claiming that preparations were under way for the 38-year-old PPP chairman’s wedding, citing unnamed sources.
The report further linked President Zardari’s private European visit to the alleged marriage arrangements. The story was subsequently removed from the publication’s website.
Presidency confirmed Zardari’s private foreign visit
The speculation emerged days after the Presidency announced on Aug. 27 that President Zardari had travelled abroad on a private visit.
The official announcement did not disclose the president’s destination or provide details about the purpose of the trip beyond describing it as private.
The absence of further information appears to have fuelled speculation on social media, including claims linking the visit to Bilawal’s alleged marriage plans.
Wahab, however, rejected the reports without ambiguity, saying the information being circulated regarding Bilawal’s engagement and wedding was incorrect and without foundation.
No confirmation from Bilawal or family
As of the clarification, there has been no announcement from Bilawal, President Zardari or other members of the Bhutto-Zardari family indicating that an engagement or wedding is planned.
Bilawal’s personal life has periodically attracted media and public interest because of his position as chairman of one of Pakistan’s largest political parties and his membership of the Bhutto-Zardari political family.
The latest episode underscores how unverified claims involving prominent political figures can spread rapidly through social media before receiving confirmation from the individuals concerned.
For now, the only public response from a senior PPP figure has been Wahab’s rejection of the reports, leaving the claims about Bilawal’s alleged engagement and wedding without official confirmation.
