Islamabad (Web Desk) – Pakistan and Türkiye have strengthened their strategic energy partnership by signing three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) aimed at improving cooperation in electricity markets, transmission systems and power distribution.
The agreements were finalised during high-level inter-ministerial consultations in Istanbul, where officials from both countries agreed to enhance technical collaboration and institutional capacity across the energy sector.
The MoUs establish cooperation between Pakistan’s Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) and Türkiye’s Energy Exchange Istanbul (EPIAŞ), ISMO and the Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ), as well as Pakistan’s Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC) and the Turkish Electricity Distribution Corporation (TEDAŞ).
The partnerships will focus on electricity market reforms, transmission planning, power distribution management, digitalisation, ancillary services, post-privatisation governance and operational efficiency. Both countries also plan to organise technical training, expert exchanges, study visits and joint development projects.
Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari said the agreements would help Pakistan benefit from Türkiye’s experience in modernising its power sector, improving governance and strengthening institutional performance.
Turkish officials reaffirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation, describing the agreements as another milestone in expanding bilateral ties and supporting sustainable energy development.
