LAHORE – Pakistan clinched the three-match One-Day International series against Australia 2-1 after a composed four-wicket victory in the final ODI at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
Chasing a modest target of 158, the hosts reached 161-6 in 41.5 overs with 49 balls remaining, completing a dominant finish to the series decider after earlier rain and wind disruptions in Lahore.
Australia, having won the toss and opted to bat first, were bowled out for 157 in 42 overs as Pakistan’s bowling attack maintained consistent pressure throughout the innings.
The Australian batting line-up struggled to build partnerships, with skipper Josh Inglis top-scoring with 65 off 71 balls. Alex Carey and Marnus Labuschagne both contributed 19 runs each, but no other batter was able to play a substantial innings.
Pakistan’s bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, who returned figures of 3 for 30. Abrar Ahmed impressed with 2 for 19, while Shadab Khan also picked up two wickets to restrict Australia to a low total.
In response, Pakistan’s chase was anchored by Babar Azam, who scored a steady 40 off 84 deliveries, providing stability after early wickets.
Shadab Khan contributed again with an unbeaten 29, while Maaz Sadaqat added a quick 27 off 26 balls to guide Pakistan closer to the target.
Australia’s bowling attack was led by Matthew Kuhnemann, who claimed 3 for 38, but lacked consistent support from other bowlers as Pakistan steadily built momentum in the chase.
The victory secured Pakistan a 2-1 series win, following Australia’s 41-run triumph in the second ODI and Pakistan’s win in the opening match.
This result further strengthens Pakistan’s strong record in ODI series deciders against Australia, marking their fifth win in six such encounters.
