Pakistan secured a five-wicket victory against Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the tournament final.
Sri Lanka’s innings started with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, but Mendis fell early, caught by Hussain Talat off Shaheen Afridi’s bowling without scoring, with the scoreboard showing just 1 run. The second blow came when Nissanka was dismissed for 8 runs in the third over, also by Shaheen Afridi.
Kusal Perera and captain Charith Asalanka attempted to rebuild, but Perera was dismissed at a team total of 43 runs. Sri Lanka’s troubles deepened at 58 runs, losing two quick wickets: Asalanka for 20 and Dasun Shanaka for a duck. Wanindu Hasaranga scored 15 before falling to Abrar Ahmed, while Kamindu Mendis top-scored with a resilient 50. Dushmantha Chameera contributed just 1 run, and Chamika Karunaratne remained not out with 17 runs off 21 balls.
This high-stakes clash was pivotal for both teams vying for a place in the final. The Pakistan team, arriving in Abu Dhabi from Dubai, took a rest day on Monday to recharge for this critical encounter.
