TEHRAN ( Agencies) – Iran has pledged a strong response after a significant escalation in military strikes by the United States and Israel targeting multiple locations, including areas near the capital, Tehran.

According to international reports, Israeli forces have carried out extensive air raids over the past 48 hours, hitting hundreds of sites described as linked to Iran’s military and government infrastructure. The strikes are among the most intense in recent weeks and signal a deepening of the ongoing conflict.

The United States has also conducted coordinated operations, targeting key infrastructure including transport routes and strategic facilities. Officials have said the strikes are aimed at weakening Iran’s operational capabilities, though details remain limited.

Iranian authorities have strongly condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of sovereignty and international law. Senior officials warned that Tehran’s response would be “decisive and sustained,” indicating that retaliation is already under way.

State media reports claim that Iranian forces, along with allied groups in the region, have launched missile and drone attacks against Israeli positions and sites hosting US military assets. However, independent verification of the full extent of these retaliatory strikes remains limited.

The escalation comes amid an already volatile situation that has been intensifying since late February 2026. The conflict has resulted in casualties on multiple sides and caused damage to both military and civilian infrastructure, raising humanitarian concerns.

PM Shehbaz, EU delegation vow to deepen trade ties, commend peace efforts

The United Nations has expressed concern over the rapid deterioration of the situation, urging all parties to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation. Analysts warn that continued hostilities could expand the conflict across the wider Middle East, affecting regional stability and global energy markets.

Legal experts have also raised concerns regarding the nature of the strikes, particularly those impacting civilian areas, suggesting that questions around compliance with international law may arise.

Despite calls for de-escalation, there appears to be little immediate prospect of a reduction in hostilities, as both sides continue to signal readiness for further confrontation.
