ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken strict disciplinary action against several customs officers for acts of inefficiency, misconduct, corruption, and absenteeism in the department.

Muhammad Asif Nawaz, Superintendent (TS-17) at the Collectorate of Customs (Airports), Lahore, was dismissed from service after an inquiry established that he allowed clearance of a used engine disguised as personal baggage, violating customs laws and causing a loss of Rs.306,553 in duties.
“Despite being experienced in customs rules for over 30 years, his failure to follow procedures and oversight responsibilities led the FBR authority to impose the major penalty of dismissal with immediate effect,” the report said.
Similarly, Syed Arshad Ali, Preventive Officer (BS-16) at Collectorate of Customs, Karachi, was also dismissed after investigation confirmed serious misconduct. CCTV evidence proved that he detained a passenger for 28 minutes without witnesses and mishandled the Currency Declaration Form, constituting a breach of procedure and raising allegations of taking bribes. The inquiry report concluded that a major penalty of dismissal was warranted.
Syeda Urooj Zainab, Inspector Customs (BS-16), Lahore, was removed from service for prolonged unauthorized absence spanning over three and a half years. Despite multiple notices and an opportunity for hearing, she failed to report to duty and attempted to submit a resignation, which did not absolve her of disciplinary proceedings. The FBR concluded that the charges of inefficiency and misconduct stood established, leading to her immediate removal.
Mr. Khalid Mahmood, MIS Officer (BS-16), Corporate Tax Office, Lahore, was downgraded to Data Entry Operator (BS-14) for two years and his performance allowance was withheld. The inquiry found negligence in CCTV management, resulting in missing cartons of cigarettes.
Mr. Muhammad Arif, Senior Auditor (TS-17), Regional Tax Office, Lahore, received a minor penalty of withholding of increment for two years due to absenteeism and delayed reporting of facts despite his long service.
Finally, Mr. Adnan Muneer, Appraising Officer (BS-16), Karachi, has been placed under suspension pending investigation into misconduct and inefficiency.
Experts said these actions demonstrate FBR’s firm approach to uphold integrity, ensure accountability, and curb corruption and negligence within its ranks. All officers have the right to appeal under the Civil Servants (Appeals) Rules, 1977 within 30 days of notification.
