BELFAST (Web Desk) –

At least 12 police officers were injured and 16 people arrested as violent riots continued for a second consecutive night in Belfast, according to police and media reports.

The unrest erupted following a stabbing incident earlier this week and quickly escalated into large-scale clashes between masked rioters and police in several parts of Northern Ireland’s capital.

Authorities said groups of around 200 people gathered in multiple locations, throwing petrol bombs, bricks, paving slabs and other objects at police officers. Vehicles and property were also set on fire during the disorder.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) responded with crowd-control measures, including water cannon and riot units, as officers attempted to restore order in affected areas.

Police confirmed that at least a dozen officers were injured during the clashes, while 16 individuals were arrested on suspicion of public order offences. Further arrests are expected as investigations continue.

The violence also led to significant damage to homes, vehicles and public infrastructure, with emergency services working through the night to secure affected neighbourhoods and assist residents.

Officials have condemned the unrest, describing it as dangerous and unacceptable, and urged communities to remain calm while investigations continue.

The riots are linked to rising tensions following a serious criminal incident in Belfast that sparked anger and widespread protests, which later turned violent after misinformation and rumours spread on social media.

Security forces remain deployed in key areas as authorities monitor the situation and prepare for possible further disturbances.
