LAHORE: Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a major challenge across all spheres of life, and that nations leading in global progress owe much of their success to AI’s transformative role.
Addressing as Chief Guest at the Journalists’ Summit 2025 held at the University of the Punjab, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan emphasized that while AI is reshaping the world, human intellect must continue to guide technology, adding that deliberation on its implications is the need of the hour.
He urged that technological education should not remain limited to universities but be extended to government schools, enabling children to acquire AI-related skills from an early age.
The Speaker also highlighted the evolving role of media, observing that social media has redefined values and public opinion. He said that “governments in the Middle East changed under the influence of social media, and the election of President Trump was a clear manifestation of that phenomenon.”
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan noted that the Pakistani media, acting with responsibility, succeeded in the information war, whereas, for the first time, a desire for war was observed in the Indian media.
He stated that in the age of AI, journalists face both crucial and challenging roles, and stressed that Pakistan must introduce AI training at the school level, similar to India. He underscored the need to enhance the education budget and safeguard freedom of thought and critical thinking.
Later, talking to the media, the Speaker discussed constitutional and national defence issues, expressing his support for the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He said that when the concept of Constitutional Courts was included in the Charter of Democracy, it was a significant step. The establishment of a Constitutional Court, he added, would allow separate adjudication of constitutional matters and help reduce delays in justice for citizens.
On national defence, he stressed the importance of complete harmony within the command structure, noting that challenges faced by the public during the May 9 incidents had been addressed through new measures. Following Indian aggression on May 9, 243, he said, improved coordination became indispensable.
In a lighter vein, the Speaker remarked that had he, like Asif Ali Zardari, spent years in incarceration, he too would have spoken of immunity, questioning what crime Zardari was ever punished for, since no case against him was proven, regardless of which government initiated it.
