MIRPUR (Sports Desks) – Shaheen Shah Afridi reached a historic milestone on Friday, becoming the first Pakistani bowler to claim 100 wickets in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).
The landmark moment came during the opening day of the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Afridi achieved the feat by removing Bangladesh opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy, marking a significant personal and national accomplishment.
With this achievement, the 26-year-old joins a distinguished list of bowlers worldwide, becoming only the 19th player to reach the 100-wicket mark in WTC history. He remains Pakistan’s most successful bowler in the tournament.
Afridi’s breakthrough not only boosted Pakistan’s position early in the match but also underlined his importance as a strike bowler in red-ball cricket.
Experts say his ability to consistently deliver with the new ball and in pressure situations has elevated him among the leading fast bowlers in contemporary cricket.
