ISLAMABAD: A joint delegation of the federal government and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is scheduled to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders on Friday to discuss the prevailing political situation.
The decision was taken during a meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday, according to a statement issued by the President House.

ملاقات میں نائب وزیراعظم و وزیر خارجہ سینیٹر محمد اسحاق ڈار، وفاقی وزیر داخلہ محسن نقوی، وفاقی وزیر قانون و انصاف سینیٹر اعظم نذیر تارڑ، وزیراعظم کے مشیر برائے سیاسی امور سینیٹر رانا ثناء اللّہ، اٹارنی جنرل آف پاکستان منصور عثمان اعوان، وزیراعظم کے مشیر ڈاکٹر توقیر شاہ، سینیٹر شیری رحمان، سینیٹر سلیم مانڈوی والا، سندھ کے سینئر وزیر شرجیل انعام میمن اور صوبائی وزیر سید ناصر حسین شاہ بھی شریک تھے۔
اجلاس میں ملک میں خیبر پختونخوا کی سیکیورٹی کی صورتحال پر تشویش کا اظہار کیا گیا۔
صدر زرداری اور وزیر اعظم شہباز شریف نے ملکی سلامتی کی صورتحال کا جائزہ لیتے ہوئے دہشت گردی کے خلاف قومی عزم کو مزید مضبوط بنانے اور ملک کے امن و استحکام کے لیے تمام متعلقہ اداروں کے درمیان مؤثر تعاون کی ضرورت پر زور دیا۔
اجلاس میں طے کیا گیا کہ کل وفاقی حکومت اور پ پ پ کا مشترکہ وفد کل پی ٹی آئی قیادت سے ملاقات کرے گا اور موجودہ سیاسی صورتحال پر مذاکرات کرے گا۔
اس مشترکہ وفد میں محسن نقوی، رانا ثنا الّلہ، امیر مقام اور پ پ پ کی طرف سے شیری رحمان، سید نوید قمر اور اعجاز جکھرانی شریک ہونگے۔

The meeting between the president and prime minister also covered the country’s security situation, particularly developments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The two leaders stressed the need for stronger coordination among relevant institutions and continued efforts against terrorism, according to the statement.
The planned meeting with the PTI will bring together representatives of the federal government and PPP for talks on political matters.
The government side of the delegation will include Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah and Amir Muqam.
The PPP delegation will comprise Senator Sherry Rehman, Syed Naveed Qamar and Ejaz Jakhrani.
Several other senior officials and political leaders also attended the meeting between President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Tauqeer Shah, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Sindh Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah were also among the participants.
The planned government-PPP engagement with the PTI comes amid continued political tensions and discussions over political dialogue.
The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the participating sides to exchange views on the current political situation and discuss matters of concern.
The decision also indicates that political consultations involving the government, its coalition partner PPP and the opposition PTI are being pursued alongside discussions on security and other national issues.
Details of the agenda for the PTI meeting were not immediately disclosed in the statement. The outcome of the talks will depend on the positions presented by the participating sides.
The development comes as the government faces calls for political dialogue amid disagreements between the ruling coalition and the PTI over several political matters.
The meeting will be closely watched for any indication of further engagement between the government and PTI leadership.
The President House confirmed the meeting between President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz and the decision to send a joint government-PPP delegation for talks with the PTI.
