CHANDIGARH (Web Desk) – Behind the fame, luxury and blockbuster films, Punjabi actor-singer Gippy Grewal’s journey to stardom is rooted in years of struggle, sacrifice and perseverance. His struggle from cleaning toilets and delivering newspapers with his wife to building a ₹150 crore empire, Gippy Grewal’s emotional journey of grit and success is brought to you.
Today, with an estimated net worth of around ₹150 crore and a successful career spanning music, films and production, Grewal is one of the biggest names in Punjabi entertainment. But long before the success, he and his wife Ravneet Kaur were juggling multiple jobs in Canada to make ends meet.
Speaking recently during promotions for his upcoming film Carry On Jatta 4, Grewal opened up about the hardships he faced during his early years abroad. He revealed that he worked as a security guard, cleaned shopping malls and toilets, and delivered newspapers alongside his wife. Despite scoring his first musical hit, financial stability remained elusive, forcing him to continue working to support his family.
Grewal said he often returned home at 4am after work before joining his wife to distribute newspapers for two more hours. Ravneet herself worked long shifts, first at Subway and later as a security guard. The couple eventually took a cleaning contract at a shopping mall, where she cleared food trays while he swept floors and cleaned washrooms.
Coming from a farming family, Grewal had borrowed money to produce his early albums. His first two projects failed commercially, leaving him with mounting pressure. His fortunes changed when his third album produced the song Phulkari, which became a massive hit and established him in the Punjabi music industry. Yet, even after tasting success, he continued his security job because music alone could not pay the bills.
Recalling those days, Grewal admitted that his English was limited and even memorising the phrase “Everything is safe and secure” for his security rounds took him two days. Despite the hardships, he said he and his wife treated newspaper deliveries as quality time together and remained optimistic.
Over the years, Grewal transformed himself into one of Punjabi cinema’s most bankable stars, delivering hit films and songs while building a successful production banner. He is now preparing for the release of Carry On Jatta 4, scheduled to hit theatres on June 26.
His story serves as a reminder that success often comes after years of unseen struggles, and that humility and hard work can turn even the toughest circumstances into a remarkable success story.
