(Web Desk) Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s long-time president, has been arrested and is now being held in a federal jail in New York after a dramatic U.S. military operation that captured him in Venezuela and brought him to the United States to face criminal charges.

According to U.S. officials, Maduro was arrested because he is accused of serious criminal activities, mainly related to drug trafficking, corruption and narco-terrorism. American prosecutors allege that Maduro used his position as president to help drug networks move large quantities of cocaine from South America to the United States.

U.S. authorities say Maduro worked with criminal groups and protected them in exchange for money and power. They claim these actions allowed illegal drugs to reach U.S. streets, causing addiction, violence and loss of life. Because of these accusations, U.S. courts had issued criminal indictments and arrest warrants against him years ago.

However, Maduro remained in Venezuela and could not be arrested because he was protected by the state and the military. The situation changed when the United States carried out a special military operation in Venezuela. During the operation, U.S. forces captured Maduro and quickly removed him from the country.

After his capture, Maduro was flown to the United States and placed in federal custody in New York, where his criminal case is being handled. He is now being held in a detention facility while awaiting court proceedings. U.S. officials say he will be given a fair trial under American law.

The United States also accuses Maduro of destroying democracy in Venezuela, manipulating elections and silencing political opponents. American officials argue that his rule caused economic collapse, widespread poverty and the mass migration of millions of Venezuelans.

Reactions to Maduro’s arrest have been mixed. Some Venezuelans, especially those living abroad, welcomed the move and said it brings hope for justice and change. Others, including Maduro’s supporters, condemned the operation, calling it illegal and a violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

Internationally, the arrest has sparked debate. Some countries have raised concerns about international law, while others have supported efforts to hold leaders accountable for alleged crimes.

Maduro’s arrest marks a rare and historic moment, as a sitting head of state has been taken into custody and brought to the United States to face criminal charges in court.
