DAKAR (Web Desk) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed concern that the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Central Africa is continuing to spread more rapidly than response measures, despite progress in surveillance and treatment efforts.
WHO officials said health authorities are facing significant challenges in controlling the outbreak, including limited treatment capacity, difficulties in tracing contacts of infected individuals and pressure on already strained healthcare systems.
The Democratic Republic of Congo remains the center of the outbreak, accounting for the vast majority of confirmed infections and fatalities. Neighboring Uganda has also reported cases, raising concerns about cross-border transmission and the need for stronger regional coordination.
Health experts emphasized that improving contact tracing, expanding treatment facilities and ensuring safe burial practices are critical to slowing the spread of the virus. International health agencies are working with local authorities to strengthen response measures and prevent further escalation.
Despite the rising number of cases, WHO maintains that the global risk remains low. However, officials stressed that additional resources and faster intervention are needed to bring the outbreak under control.
Public health specialists warned that the current outbreak is one of the fastest-growing Ebola emergencies in recent years, highlighting the importance of sustained international support and community engagement in affected areas.
