WASHINGTON (Web Desk) — U.S. President Donald Trump warned Monday that “bad things” could happen if negotiations with Iran fail, as regional diplomacy intensifies ahead of a potential meeting in Istanbul.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said the United States has “big ships” heading toward Iran while talks continue. He added that a deal would be preferable but suggested consequences if negotiations do not succeed.
The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic efforts following heightened tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States. In June 2025, Israel, backed by Washington, carried out strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, prompting retaliatory missile and drone attacks by Tehran. The U.S. later conducted its own strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
Axios reported that Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi are expected to hold talks in Istanbul on Friday, though sources cautioned that plans remain fluid.
Regional countries, including Türkiye, Egypt and Qatar, have reportedly played key roles in facilitating contacts between Washington and Tehran. Iranian media said President Masoud Pezeshkian has directed officials to resume nuclear negotiations with the United States.
