Trump announces full and immediate ceasefire between India and Pakistan after U.S.-mediated talks
Washington, D.C. – May 10, 2025: Former U.S. President Donald J. Trump has claimed credit for brokering a “full and immediate ceasefire” between long-time regional rivals India and Pakistan, following a night of intense negotiations reportedly mediated by the United States.

In a social media post from his official handle @realDonaldTrump, Trump wrote, “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
While neither India nor Pakistan had officially released statements confirming the ceasefire at the time of this publication, Trump’s assertion sparked immediate international interest. Global diplomatic observers, particularly in South Asia, have responded cautiously, noting the historical volatility between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, especially over the contested Kashmir region.
Trump’s announcement comes amid a tense geopolitical climate, with recent cross-border escalations and heightened military activity reported in Kashmir over the past few weeks. The U.S.-led talks are believed to have taken place behind closed doors, and few details have been made public regarding the location, format, or key negotiators involved.
This is not the first time Trump has inserted himself into India-Pakistan affairs. During his presidency, he repeatedly offered to mediate the Kashmir conflict — a proposal that received mixed responses from both New Delhi and Islamabad.
If confirmed, the ceasefire could mark a significant de-escalation in one of the world’s most enduring and dangerous rivalries. Analysts suggest that sustained diplomatic engagement and regional cooperation will be critical to maintaining the peace.
International leaders are now expected to respond to the development, and clarity is awaited from the foreign ministries of both India and Pakistan.
