Two bills, the Punjab High Security Zones (Establishment) Bill, 2026 and the Punjab Waqf, Trusts and Cooperative Societies (Monitoring) Bill, 2026, were passed unanimously in the meeting.
The Punjab High Security Zones (Establishment) Bill, 2026 authorizes the Government of Punjab to declare certain areas as High Security Zones and Designated Areas in order to protect public safety and maintain security. It allows the government to regulate public gatherings, protests, and other activities in these sensitive locations. The law also empowers authorities to prohibit activities that may threaten public safety or security and provides a legal framework for managing security arrangements in such areas across Punjab.
The Punjab Waqf, Trusts and Cooperative Societies (Monitoring) Bill, 2026 establishes a system to monitor and regulate Waqf properties, trusts, and cooperative societies in Punjab. It aims to improve transparency, oversight, and governance by introducing a beneficial ownership regime, ensuring that the real owners or beneficiaries of properties and assets are properly recorded. The bill also provides for the creation of a commission or monitoring mechanism to supervise these entities and coordinate with relevant government departments.
