In his first public message since assuming the leadership, Mojtaba Khamenei said the presence of American military installations across the Middle East was a major cause of instability and conflict.
“The presence of US forces has turned neighbouring territories into platforms for aggression against the Iranian nation,” he said in a televised address, adding that such bases should be “immediately closed.”
He warned that if the bases continue to operate and threaten Iran’s security, they could be considered legitimate targets by Iran’s armed forces.
The new Iranian leader also urged regional countries not to allow their territories to be used for attacks against Iran, stressing that Tehran seeks cooperation and friendship with neighbouring states.
Khamenei further said Iran would defend its sovereignty and national dignity against any external pressure, adding that the country would not surrender to threats.
He also referred to the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, saying it could remain a point of pressure against those seeking to harm Iran.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with regional security concerns increasing due to ongoing geopolitical rivalries and military build-ups.
