At the end of the second day of the Rawalpindi Test, South Africa stood at 185 for four in reply to Pakistan’s 333.
Chasing Pakistan’s first-innings total, South Africa lost their first wicket at 22 when Ryan Rickelton was dismissed for 14 by Shaheen Afridi. Tony de Zorzi made 55, captain Aiden Markram scored 32, while Dewald Brevis was dismissed without scoring.
For Pakistan, debutant Asif Afridi picked up two wickets, with Shaheen Afridi and Sajid Khan taking one each. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 68 alongside Kyle Verreynne, who was not out on 10 when play ended.
Earlier, Pakistan resumed at 259 for five and were bowled out after adding only 74 more runs. Agha Salman resisted with 45 before being trapped lbw by Keshav Maharaj, while Saud Shakeel made 66. Shaheen Afridi was bowled for a duck by Maharaj, who went on to claim seven wickets in the innings.
Returning from a groin injury that kept him out of the first Test in Lahore, Maharaj produced a superb performance.
Pakistan, having won the first Test in Lahore by 93 runs, are now eyeing a clean sweep in the two-match ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 series. The loss in Lahore had also brought an end to South Africa’s ten-match winning streak.
