LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, inaugurated the state-of-the-art Wrestling Sports Complex and Mini Stadium in Gujranwala on Thursday, marking a major step forward for sports infrastructure in the region.

MNA Shahid Usman, MPA Nawaz Chohan, and MPA Shazia Fareed briefed the minister on the newly constructed facilities. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Punjab Muzaffar Khan Sial, Deputy Project Director North Zone Syed Ahmed Aizaz, Divisional Sports Officer Faisal Ameer, international wrestling icon Inam Butt, and a large gathering of local dignitaries and wrestling enthusiasts.
Addressing the event, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the government is committed to boosting sports infrastructure across Punjab in line with the vision of the Chief Minister. “Wrestling is the pride of this region, and this complex is a gift from the Punjab Chief Minister to the city of wrestlers,” he remarked.
He shared that the Wrestling Complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs 155 million, while the Mini Stadium project cost Rs 7.5 million. The complex boasts facilities for both mud and mat wrestling, an indoor hall with a seating capacity of 400, an outdoor field accommodating 500 spectators, floodlights, and a modern gymnasium. The venue is capable of hosting international-level events.
The Mini Stadium is equipped with world-class facilities including football, hockey, volleyball courts, an open gym, jogging track, and advanced floodlighting, with seating for over 4,000 spectators.
Minister Khokhar emphasized that the new complex will provide young athletes with more opportunities to train and develop their skills. “The long-standing demand of the region’s youth has been met today. Our goal is to steer our younger generation towards healthy and productive sports activities,” he said.
