ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong support for Saudi Arabia following the latest ballistic missile attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif describing the strikes as an unacceptable violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to regional peace.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the prime minister condemned the attacks and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that any attempt to undermine the Kingdom’s security and territorial integrity was unacceptable and called for collective efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East.
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stood shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia during the challenging situation and remained committed to supporting all sincere initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability and mutual understanding in the region. He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remained the most effective means of resolving disputes and preventing further escalation.
The latest missile attack has heightened concerns over security in the Gulf, where tensions linked to the Yemen conflict continue to affect regional stability. Saudi authorities said their air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed the incoming ballistic missiles before they reached their intended targets, preventing casualties and damage.
Pakistan also raised the issue during an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation in Yemen. Addressing the session, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Usman Jadoon, reaffirmed Islamabad’s full support for Saudi Arabia’s security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He also reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, emphasizing that lasting peace could only be achieved through dialogue, diplomacy and restraint by all parties involved.
Pakistan’s representative expressed concern over the worsening humanitarian and security situation in Yemen, urging all stakeholders to avoid actions that could intensify the conflict. He noted that continued violence not only threatens regional security but also deepens the humanitarian crisis affecting millions of civilians.
According to Saudi-led coalition spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki, the ballistic missiles launched by Houthi forces were intercepted by Saudi air defence systems before reaching their targets in southern parts of the Kingdom. The coalition credited its defensive capabilities with preventing potential casualties and infrastructure damage.
The Houthis had earlier accused Saudi Arabia of conducting airstrikes on Sanaa Airport and warned that the Kingdom would face consequences for the operation. The exchange marks another episode in the prolonged conflict that has continued to fuel instability across the region.
Pakistan has consistently maintained close diplomatic and strategic ties with Saudi Arabia and has repeatedly expressed support for the Kingdom’s security during periods of heightened regional tensions. Islamabad has also continued to advocate for a peaceful political settlement of the Yemen conflict under the framework of the United Nations.
Foreign policy experts believe that renewed diplomatic engagement among regional stakeholders will be essential to preventing further escalation and protecting vital economic and security interests in the Gulf. They argue that sustained dialogue remains the only viable path toward reducing hostilities and creating conditions for a comprehensive political solution.
Pakistan has urged the international community to intensify efforts aimed at facilitating negotiations between the parties to the conflict while ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches civilians affected by years of violence. Officials maintain that stability in the Middle East is vital for regional peace, global energy security and international economic stability.
Islamabad reiterated that it would continue supporting initiatives promoting peaceful conflict resolution and regional cooperation, while standing firmly with Saudi Arabia against threats to its sovereignty and security.
