ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A proposal to increase electricity tariffs by Rs0.82 per unit for consumers across Pakistan has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
According to NEPRA, the request was filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for the fuel cost adjustment related to May 2026.
The regulatory authority has scheduled a hearing on June 30 to examine the proposal and hear relevant stakeholders before making a decision.
Sources stated that if the increase is approved, electricity consumers across the country could face an additional financial burden of around Rs12 billion.
The CPPA said the average fuel cost of power generation during May was recorded at Rs9.25 per unit, which forms the basis of the requested adjustment.
Fuel cost adjustments are regularly reviewed by NEPRA to reflect changes in fuel prices and the electricity generation mix. Any approved increase will be incorporated into future electricity bills in accordance with regulatory decisions.
