KARACHI (Web Desk): A growing measles outbreak in Sindh has claimed the lives of 53 children so far this year, while more than 2,000 cases have been reported across the province, health officials said.

According to medical experts, the rapid spread of the disease has emerged as a major public health concern, prompting renewed calls for timely vaccination and greater public awareness.

Pediatric specialist Dr Khalid Shafee said that over 2,000 measles cases have been recorded in Sindh during the current year. Across Pakistan, the disease has reportedly caused 96 child deaths, with Sindh accounting for more than half of the fatalities.

Health experts believe low vaccination coverage is one of the primary reasons behind the outbreak. They stressed that measles is a preventable disease and that routine immunization remains the most effective way to protect children from infection.

Doctors warned that failure to vaccinate children has allowed the highly contagious virus to spread rapidly in several areas, increasing the risk of severe illness and complications.

Medical professionals have urged parents to ensure that their children receive all recommended vaccines on time to reduce the risk of infection and prevent further loss of life.

Measles is a highly infectious viral disease that mainly affects children. Common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose and a characteristic skin rash. In severe cases, the disease can weaken the immune system, cause serious complications and even lead to death.

Health authorities and medical experts have called for stronger vaccination campaigns and increased public awareness to contain the outbreak and prevent additional fatalities in the coming months.
